The unfortunate event resulted in the death of seven-year-old Archie York. Subsequently, another body, presumed to belong to a 30-year-old male, was discovered beneath the rubble of the three houses that were demolished on Violet Close in Benwell.
Six additional individuals have been swiftly transported to the hospital, and it is thought that there are no individuals unaccounted for. The remaining residents have been residing with friends and family.
Superintendent Darren Adams expressed his profound sorrow as he addressed the audience today in light of the heartbreaking loss of a young child. He stated, ‘Due to the incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning, we regret to inform you that a seven-year-old boy has tragically lost his life.’
I am confident that the residents of Elswick and Benwell, along with our broader community, will wish to unite with me in expressing their thoughts and condolences to the family and friends. The grief and sorrow they are enduring is beyond comprehension.
