Tensions escalated—and, to be honest, became quite ridiculous—when Democratic Representative LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) appeared on CNN’s “News Central” on Tuesday, May 20. The congresswoman, who is currently confronting significant criminal charges from the Trump-led Department of Justice, tried to portray a violent attack on federal law enforcement officials as merely “fulfilling her duties.”
The allegations arise from a tumultuous event at the Delaney Hall ICE facility located in Newark, New Jersey, where Representative McIver, along with a cohort of fellow Democrats, including the outspoken Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, forcefully entered the federal immigration center. Video evidence, which is currently being disseminated extensively, unmistakably depicts Representative McIver engaging in physical violence against agents from both ICE and the Department of Homeland Security during this illegal incursion. The mayor was apprehended immediately.
Rather than accepting accountability for her actions, McIver appeared on CNN and embarked on an outrageous rant filled with justifications, victim-blaming, and political theatrics.
“I find the charges to be preposterous. It is, quite frankly, absurd,” McIver stated to CNN host Kate Bolduan, before going on to assert that she and her colleagues were merely “performing their duties.” Naturally, congressional oversight does not encompass intruding into a secure federal facility and assaulting law enforcement; however, that particular aspect appeared to elude the congresswoman.
During the course of the interview, McIver reiterated her denial, oddly attributing the confrontation to ICE. “The whole situation was intensified by ICE,” she stated. “Homeland arrived and created this turmoil that we are witnessing.”
This is in spite of the undeniable video evidence that demonstrates McIver instigating the assault.
Even more astonishing, the congresswoman appeared to suggest that her actions—invading a secure federal facility and assaulting officers—were not only warranted but also an essential aspect of her responsibilities as a congresswoman. “If I am to be prosecuted for performing my duties,” she stated, “it merely reflects the direction in which our country is moving.”]}]}
Clearly, our direction is towards a return to law and order—an approach that Democrats such as McIver are not accustomed to confronting.
Rep. McIver also sought to portray herself as a target of political persecution, oddly alleging that Alina Habba, the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, was attempting to “coerce” her into confessing to misconduct. “They wanted me to acknowledge doing something I did not do,” she asserted. “I refuse to back down and will continue to perform my duties.”
Federal officials assert that McIver’s conduct was criminal rather than political. Assaulting federal officers constitutes a felony, regardless of one’s political affiliation or the cause one supports. Furthermore, the Department of Justice, now under the leadership restored by Trump, has unequivocally stated that lawlessness—even when perpetrated by members of Congress—will not be accepted.
This is not a mere oversight. This serves as yet another instance of the radical Left operating under the belief that they are above the law.
The citizens of the United States are entitled to representatives who uphold the rule of law—not those who provoke disorder, portray themselves as victims on cable news, and attack the dedicated individuals responsible for maintaining the security of our borders. Should the Department of Justice pursue justice, Representative McIver may soon be required to clarify her “role” in a courtroom rather than in a CNN studio.
