Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday extended well wishes to former President Biden after he announced he was diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer.

In her short message, Clinton nodded to the work Biden and his family have done to combat the disease and promote early detection.

“I’m thinking of the Bidens as they take on cancer, a disease they’ve done so much to try to spare other families from,” Clinton wrote on the social platform X on Sunday.

“Wishing you a speedy, full recovery,” she added.

After Biden lost his son, Beau, to brain cancer in 2015, the then-vice president spearheaded the Obama administration’s “Cancer Moonshot” initiative, which aimed to accelerate cancer research, improve prevention and treatment strategies, foster greater collaboration in the medical research space and improve access to care.

When Biden returned to the Oval Office as president, he relaunched the initiative with a similar focus.

A few months after leaving the White House, Biden announced his cancer diagnosis and said he was reviewing treatment options.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” his personal office said in a statement. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

Biden and Clinton worked closely together during their time in the Obama administration, after overlapping for eight years in the Senate.
