17-year-old Kai Trump was too young to be meaningfully involved in either of Donald Trump’s previous campaigns for president. But tonight, she took to the RNC stage to show “the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see.”
“When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me,” said Kai, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., who introduced her onstage, and his former wife Vanessa Trump. “He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going and tells me all about his.”
The eldest of Donald Trump’s 10 grandchildren, Kai has been part of numerous family photo shoots and attended high-profile events like Trump’s 2017 inauguration. But this marks her first significant role in her grandfather’s election campaign.
Kai has amassed a significant social following on Instagram, which jumped from 131,00 to 139,000 followers right after her speech. Her posts are almost exclusively about golf, including her championship victory at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach earlier this year. In a video titled “Get to know Kai Trump!” posted on her YouTube channel last year, she said she plays golf five days per week and wants to become a professional golfer.
On Saturday, she posted a photo of the former president surrounded by Secret Service after being shot at a Pennsylvania campaign rally with the caption, “We love you Grandpa. Never stop fighting!”
She also spoke about the assassination attempt at the rally.
“A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell and he is still standing,” she said.
