While leaders of the Democratic Party, such as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, persist in promoting misleading narratives regarding illegal immigrants being “afraid to seek care,” factual data emerging from Texas has effectively debunked that myth — revealing the significant burden that illegal immigration imposes on diligent American taxpayers.
In a contentious exchange on X (formerly Twitter), ignited by a post from Mayor Bass on July 9, conservatives presented compelling evidence — and it was quite damaging. The statistics disclosed that illegal immigrants accumulated over $121 million in medical expenses in Texas hospitals within just one month — with $25 million of that amount financed by Medicaid.
Consider this: illegal aliens are depleting U.S. public healthcare resources, while liberal politicians continue to attempt to persuade the public that they are being “denied care.”
The situation escalated when Bass asserted that undocumented immigrants were forgoing life-saving medical treatment due to fear of ICE, claiming that no-shows in L.A. hospitals had doubled. “This assault on our city must end,” she stated — disregarding the actual source of the issue: illegal immigration itself.
In response, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller countered, highlighting the soaring costs associated with subsidized healthcare for illegal immigrants. “A primary driver of healthcare expenses in America is the free or subsidized healthcare provided to illegal aliens and their families,” Miller remarked.
Conservative commentator Gunther Eagleman bluntly stated, “Illegal aliens should receive ZERO benefits from the government.” However, the left was not finished with their disinformation campaign.
Liberal commentator Brian Tyler Cohen entered the fray, smugly asserting, “Undocumented immigrants are not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare.” Yet, that assertion did not hold up over time. The X community swiftly reacted, with media watchdog Tom Elliott correcting him: “14 states explicitly provide Medicaid to illegal immigrants. Do you ever write anything that isn’t a lie?”
Then came the real bombshell.
The information was derived from a report released under Gov. Greg Abbott’s Executive Order 46, which requires hospitals to report healthcare expenses related to illegal immigrants in order to monitor the repercussions of Biden’s open-border policies. This order, enacted in August 2024, enforces transparency — a concept that the left seeks to evade at all costs.
As stated by HHSC staff member Jennifer Ruffcorn, the statistics are indisputable. “Hospitals across the state have reported the data… to evaluate the costs to the Texas public hospital system resulting from the federal government’s open-border policies,” she noted.
Let us be clear: American citizens are bearing the financial burden, while the Biden administration persists in advocating for additional entitlements, increased sanctuary protections, and heightened border disorder.
This is not compassion — it is theft, plain and simple. Conservatives are justified in their demand for accountability. When illegal immigrants receive taxpayer-funded healthcare while veterans are left homeless, the system is fundamentally flawed — and the American populace is fully aware of who is responsible for this breakdown.
