President Trump has been justified in a notable manner following the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to manage anti-ICE riots, as the LAPD designated the gathering an “unlawful assembly” due to the rising violence.
In contrast to this evident action, California Governor Gavin Newsom has asserted that the situation was under control, claiming that the call for troops only intensified the riots.
To provide context, beginning on June 7, 2025, violent mobs have plunged the city of Los Angeles into widespread lawlessness reminiscent of the riots in 2020. Allegedly acting in defense of the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), these mobs have set cars ablaze, assaulted law enforcement officers, and burned flags. It is not surprising that Democrats have opportunistically exploited these violent protests to further their anti-Trump agenda.
Initiating the discussion, California Democrat Gavin Newsom remarked, “Donald Trump has created a crisis and is exacerbating the situation. If he is unable to resolve it, we will take action. To those engaging in unlawful behavior — Violent actions will not be accepted. You will face arrest.
Condemning the rioters before addressing Trump, he asserted, “You will face prosecution. Your actions are causing more than just harm to buildings and property. You are undermining the very foundation of our republic. The integrity of democracy is at stake. Donald Trump is exploiting you as a pretext to militarize a city and bypass our democratic processes.”
In closing his disconnected remarks, he stated, “To the numerous peaceful protesters — we aim to ensure your safety. We encourage you to exercise your fundamental rights. And to our law enforcement personnel on the streets— who are upholding the laws with respect and responsibility—we also wish to ensure your safety. However, Donald Trump must retract his actions. He must step back.”
In response to these inflammatory comments, White House Press Secretary Karolien Leavitt took to X on June 9, 2025, to clarify the situation. She stated, “Gavin Newsom did nothing while violent riots unfolded in Los Angeles for several days.”
Continuing her extensive social media rebuttal, she remarked, “Federal law enforcement officers were assaulted by violent extremists and illegal offenders brandishing foreign flags because Governor Newsom lacked the strength to safeguard the city.
In conclusion, the brave SPOX remarked, “The Chief of Police in Los Angeles has even acknowledged that the riots are spiraling out of control. President Trump has intervened to uphold law and order and safeguard federal properties.”
Nevertheless, in a separate statement, Newsom asserted, “Local law enforcement did not require assistance. Let us clarify: 1) Local law enforcement did not require assistance. 2) Trump deployed troops regardless — to instigate chaos and violence. 3) Trump was successful. 4) As a result, the situation has become unstable, necessitating the deployment of additional law enforcement to rectify Trump’s chaos.”
Countering the Democrats’ narrative, a representative for the LAPD stated, “Agitators have fragmented and spread throughout the Downtown Area. Residents, businesses, and visitors in the Downtown Area should remain vigilant and report any criminal activities. Officers are responding to multiple locations to disperse crowds. An UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY has been declared in the Downtown Los Angeles region.
