In a significant announcement on X, DOGE disclosed that the United States Institute for Peace was expelled from their $500 million facility following a prolonged conflict between unelected officials and federal law enforcement. Additionally, DOGE revealed the substantial fraud uncovered at the contentious institute.
To provide context, DOGE made waves at USIP by terminating over 300 employees and unveiling a strategy to transfer the institute’s $500 million headquarters to the Government Services Administration (GSA). Although some disgruntled bureaucrats have initiated legal action against DOGE regarding this decision, a federal judge has refused to halt the restructuring.
This was evidenced in DOGE’s post dated March 31, 2025, which detailed the findings of investigators at USIP. The post stated, “Each year, the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) receives $55M in congressional (taxpayer) funding. – Previous management would funnel surplus funds into its private Endowment (with no congressional oversight). Over the last decade, USIP has allocated approximately $13M to its private Endowment, primarily utilized for private events and travel.”
Furthermore, DOGE enumerated additional instances of mismanagement. DOGE stated, “USIP contracts (now annulled) include: – $132,000 to Mohammad Qasem Halimi, a former Taliban member who served as Afghanistan’s Chief of Protocol. $2,232,500 to an external Accountant, who attempted to erase over 1 terabyte of accounting data (now retrieved) after new leadership took over. – $1,307,061 to the Al Tadhamun Iraqi League for Youth – $675,000 for private aviation services.
On April 1, 2025, DOGE made a significant announcement. The department stated, “Update: the $13M in taxpayer dollars (as referenced below) has been returned to the Treasury.” Social media users quickly gathered to commend DOGE for their swift actions and dedication to accountability.
In the comments section of the post, conservatives voiced their outrage regarding the casual manner in which USIP squandered federal funds. One comment noted, “- $2,232,500 to its external Accountant, who attempted to erase over 1 terabyte of accounting data (now recovered) after new leadership took over. Wow – I can only imagine the corruption and what they were concealing.”
Building on this sentiment, several users called for severe penalties. One reply stated, “It seems the accountant may have violated the law. @AGPamBondi should be investigating this thoroughly. We must not allow ANY of these individuals to evade justice. If they broke the law, they should be prosecuted.”
Some users questioned the ethical standards of the bureaucrats involved in this misconduct. One of the numerous comments expressed, “Thank you for all of this remarkable work. It is absurd that the left opposes this. Did their parents teach them that there was a money tree? My father ensured I understood the origins of money and had me working from the age of 8. When he took half for savings and ‘taxes’ (which he actually put all in), I was not pleased, but now I am retired with a substantial amount of savings to last until Jesus calls me home.”
In response to the potential treason of sending funds to the Taliban, some users were furious. One such reply remarked, “The United States Institute of Peace sending $130k to the Taliban? Five years ago, I would have been outraged, but now that we understand what these ‘democracy cutouts’ truly do, I am not surprised at all. I am pleased that you were able to cancel this overt corruption.”
