Trump border czar Tom Homan emphasized that ICE will adopt a zero tolerance policy towards the violent protests occurring in Los Angeles. In an interview with Fox News, he stated that the National Guard would be deployed to restore order, a commitment that President Trump fulfilled just hours later with the arrival of 2,000 National Guard members in L.A.
To provide context, a violent anti-ICE riot erupted in Paramount, Los Angeles, California, on June 7, 2025, with reports confirming that several individuals sustained serious injuries as a result. In light of the violence, border czar Tom Homan declared during a Fox News interview on June 7 that the National Guard was being dispatched to intervene.
During his Fox News appearance, Homan criticized officials such as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who he accused of crossing “the line” by threatening to “dox ICE employees.” He remarked, “You know, ICE agents [are] out there with the mask on, wearing masks to protect themselves and their families, because they’ve seen other families be doxxed, or [their] life’s been threatened.”
Furthering his argument, Homan revealed that he had “over 1000 protestors” gathered outside his residence, asserting that ICE employees “are putting their lives on the line every day” while facing violent backlash. He noted, “They arrest a lot of bad people; yesterday and today, they arrested child sex offenders. They arrested individuals convicted of robbery.”
Homan then stated that L.A. Mayor Karen Bass “ought to be thanking us for making her city safer,” and clarified that the appropriate term for those apprehended by ICE is not “migrant,” but “illegal aliens.” He added, “These are illegal aliens who committed a crime by crossing this border illegally, then committed another crime again.
In a dramatic announcement, Homan declared that ICE was “stepping up,” stating, “We’re already ahead of the game. We were already mobilizing. We’re going to bring the National Guard in tonight. We’re going to continue doing our job. We’re going to push back on these individuals, and we’re going to enforce the law.
Additionally, on the same day, the president released an official memorandum directed to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, instructing him to deploy National Guard units “to temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to safeguard Federal property, at locations where protests against these functions are occurring or are anticipated based on current threat assessments and planned operations.”
Continuing, President Trump ordered that “a minimum of 2,000 National Guard personnel” be deployed in Los Angeles for “60 days or as determined by the Secretary of Defense,” further stating, “The Secretary of Defense may utilize additional members of the regular Armed Forces as needed to enhance and support the safeguarding of Federal functions and property in any quantity deemed suitable at his discretion.”
