Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) is facing criticism after a video emerged that seemingly depicts him engaging in an action that many in the liberal media previously accused Elon Musk of months ago, following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election.
During President Trump’s inauguration for his second term in the White House, Musk placed his hand over his heart and extended his arm outward with an open palm, a gesture that liberal media outlets likened to a Nazi salute. In truth, he was offering his heart to the audience as a symbolic act of love and solidarity.
Prominent Democratic lawmakers reacted with strong emotions as they fervently denounced the gesture as antisemitic. Every left-leaning media outlet produced continuous coverage of the incident, inundating the American public with discussions surrounding the video.
Now, a clip has emerged showing Booker performing the same gesture, yet the media appears to be largely quiet regarding this incident.
Users on X have accused traditional media outlets of biased reporting for harshly criticizing Musk while remaining silent about Booker. One user commented, “Is the media’s selective coverage indicative of bias, or do they merely prioritize what aligns with their narrative over genuine newsworthiness?”
Another remarked, “It’s only deemed wrong when the mainstream media declares it so. Otherwise, it’s acceptable.”
According to Newsweek, one of the few media outlets that appears to have reported on the situation involving Booker, a representative for the New Jersey senator provided a response to the controversy on Sunday.
“Cory Booker was clearly just waving to the audience. Anyone who asserts that his wave is equivalent to Elon Musk’s gesture is acting in bad faith,” stated Maya Krishna-Rogers, spokesperson for Booker, in an emailed statement to the outlet. “The distinctions between the two gestures are evident to anyone who does not have an agenda.”
Billionaire SpaceX CEO Elon Musk shared the video and several images of Booker performing the salute on social media, accusing him of making the same gesture he did.
“As previously reported by Newsweek, video footage shows Booker addressing the Democratic convention on Saturday in California. As he concluded his speech, Booker placed his hand over his heart before extending his hand, fingers spread, towards the audience and then returning both hands to his heart,” the report indicated.
The article subsequently recognized that Booker’s gesture closely resembles that of Musk.
