President Donald Trump issued a notably composed statement on Friday morning regarding the ongoing public dispute with billionaire Elon Musk.
“I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem,” Trump remarked during a phone interview with CNN.
When questioned about a possible phone conversation between the two, Trump replied: “No. I won’t be speaking to him for a while I guess, but I wish him well.”
Individuals close to Trump have depicted him as more discontent than enraged with Musk. According to one aide who was present with Trump on Thursday night, he seemed “bummed” about the separation. This sentiment was evident in his tone on Friday morning.
Musk’s criticism of Trump’s hallmark tax and immigration legislation ignited a verbal conflict on Thursday.
Musk implied that Trump would have lost the 2024 election without his support, endorsed calls for Trump’s impeachment, and even asserted that Trump was “in” the Epstein files related to the investigation of the accused sex trafficker.
“That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk tweeted.
In response, Trump stated that Musk had gone “CRAZY” and suggested the termination of Musk’s government contracts and subsidies.
Vice President JD Vance expressed his support for Trump amidst the public discourse in a brief post on X, although it came hours after the exchange between Trump and Musk commenced.
The post did not directly address Musk’s allegations or denounce the Tesla billionaire, with whom Vance has a relationship dating back to his time as Trump’s running mate and vice president.
“President Trump has done more than anyone in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads. I am proud to stand beside him,” Vance stated on social media.
“There are many falsehoods propagated by the corporate media about President Trump. One of the most conspicuous is that he’s impulsive or short-tempered. Anyone who has witnessed him operate under pressure knows that’s absurd,” Vance wrote, directing his anger towards the media.
The White House characterized the public dispute between Trump and Elon Musk as “an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is not in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill due to its exclusion of his policies.”
“The President is dedicated to advancing this historic legislation and restoring greatness to our country,” stated White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a formal announcement.
Shortly after making unsubstantiated accusations against Trump regarding the Epstein files, Musk seemed to moderate his stance, even endorsing a post on X that encouraged both parties to “make peace.”
Musk’s initial indication of his retreat came from a user on X with a modest following of just over 141, who suggested he should “cool off” and “take a step back.”
This tweet from the seemingly random individual led Musk to retract his earlier warning about decommissioning the spacecraft utilized for transporting individuals and supplies to the International Space Station, a warning he had issued only hours prior.
“Good advice,” Musk replied to the user. “Alright, we will not decommission Dragon.”

There is currently no indication that the two individuals will engage in conversation on Friday, although circumstances may evolve.
