An American couple, Sarah and Bill, made a generous gesture at a Canadian restaurant by paying for every customer’s meal. Their act of kindness stemmed from their disapproval of U.S. policies, particularly tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. The president had recently signed an order enforcing strict tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, citing concerns over fentanyl production and illegal border crossings. The order claimed enough fentanyl had been seized at the northern border to kill 9.8 million Americans and that crossings from Canada had reached record highs. Disagreeing with these measures, Sarah and Bill decided to show support for Canadians by covering the cost of meals for approximately 50 to 60 diners. Restaurant patron Aileen Ganley-Mutter recalled the surprise in the room, saying, “We were all shocked because that just doesn’t happen.” Some customers offered to contribute, but the couple refused, calling it “the least they could do.” Co-owner May Hermiz described the moment as heartwarming, with cheers and applause from the crowd. She shared that the woman expressed her love for Canada, adding, “She hates what the U.S. is doing to us and doesn’t support it.”
