A woman named Julia Wandelt, who claimed she might be Madeleine McCann, found herself in legal trouble after arriving in the UK. The story of this young Polish woman has caught the public’s attention since she put forth the possibility that she could be the British girl who disappeared in Portugal back in 2007.
Julia Wandelt, 23, had touched down at Bristol airport when she was detained on charges of stalking and harassing the McCann family. Her companion, a friend thought to be in their 60s, was also taken into custody alongside her.
This controversial claim of Wandelt’s stems from DNA results she had previously shared, which were analyzed by an expert renowned worldwide. The DNA was compared to evidence from the scene of the child’s disappearance.
Julia highlighted specific features in her eyes, teeth, and voice as possible matches to those of Madeleine McCann, who vanished at the age of three about 18 years prior.
She asserted that a source close to her indicates there is genetic evidence suggesting Gerry McCann could potentially be her biological father. Her DNA, publicly shared, hinted she is partly British and partly Irish, contradicting a full Polish heritage.
Part two of these test results was reviewed by the respected Dr. Monte Miller. A PhD holder in Biochemistry from Loma Linda University, he provided insights into her DNA findings.
His correspondence with Julia conveyed: “The straightforward conclusion is that the suspect’s DNA is not an exact match to the evidence DNA. However, the similarity is more significant than coincidence might dictate, with a pattern indicative of a familial link.”
The culmination of Julia’s DNA findings, according to her source, was a ‘perfect match’ with strands of DNA from the crime scene. An anonymous source claimed to have analyzed hair from the crime scene’s floor and saliva from the bedding, finding a match rate of 69.23%, hinting at a familial link.

The analysis suggested a possible parent-child relationship between McCann and Wandelt, supporting the idea of McCann as a potential biological father. However, the definitive accuracy of this analysis remains in contention.
Amid these claims, Julia’s parents have firmly rejected her assertions. They maintained, “For us, it is obvious that Julia belongs to our family as our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and step-niece. We have shared memories and photographs that attest to this bond.”
They added, “Julia herself retains these photos, having taken them along with her birth certificate and numerous medical documents from our family home.”
In response to the escalating situation, Julia’s Polish parents have abstained from participating in a DNA examination to verify their biological relationship with her.
Julia’s media representative, Surjit Singh Clair, conveyed a public statement: “Although evidence suggests a relation to Gerry McCann, neither he nor Kate has consented to a DNA test.”
He continued, “Authorities have not arranged for any DNA testing after learning of Julia’s Polish descent through mainstream media, like the BBC. Even if presumed a random Polish individual, her DNA’s connection to the crime scene raises questions unanswered by them.”
The representative highlighted, “Despite the investigative expenditure of £20 million, a mere £60 test remains pending, although Julia expressed her willingness to cover the cost herself.”
